Chiefs get Sporting in Absa Cup

Kaizer Chiefs will begin their quest for glory in the lucrative Absa Cup competition against fist division strugglers Sporting FC at home on the weekend of March 22 and 23.

Sporting - defender Martin Carelse's former club - are currently placed at the bottom half of the table and Chiefs should have no hassles proceeding to the next round.

There were no seeded teams and the first 16 teams out of the hat got home ground advantage. Venues are yet to be confirmed. However, there will be no replays. In case of a draw the match will go into 30 minutes extra time and if there is still no winner the match will be settled through penalties.

The winner of the inaugural Absa Cup - a version of the English FA Cup - will walk away with R1.5 million while the runners up will pocket R900 000.
