Sparta Macufe Cup

Bloemfontein Celtic 1 (5) - 1 (3) Kaizer Chiefs

Bloemfontein Celtic beat Kaizer Chiefs to win their fifth Macufe Cup in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The end to end clash was a perfect fit to bring the curtains down in what many described as electrifying atmosphere.

Lerato Lamola silenced the Amakhosi with a diving header early in the second half, the goal that sent the Siwelele into a rapture. Dladla silenced the high spirited Celtic legion with a well taken spot kick after referee Thando Ndzandzeka adjudged Celtic for a hand ball in the box.

Both teams made changes in the second half, with Chiefs bringing on the six allocated substitutes. Goal minder Pieterse and Khuzwayo shared the poles in each half.

The two teams threw everything into attack at the death. The four minutes referee's optional time was not enough to settle the match in fulltime.

It boiled down to penalty kicks with both teams hitting the back of the net until Mthembu shot his kick wide of Tingyemb's goal.

Both coaches used the game to fill the gap in the Fifa week. After all the Sparta Macufe Cup became what the good doctor ordered to bring down the six day Macufe Cultural Festival.

Both teams walked through the Free State Stadium tunnel wearing the bandanas in recognition of the National Bandana Day to support the people who suffer from leukemia cancer.
