“We are looking forward to our fixture against Polokwane City,” reflects Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela after the hard fought win against SuperSport United at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night.
“We are happy with the performance and satisfied that we have completed our mission in Cape Town with a win,” Komphela added. Saturday’s win was the last of Amakhosi’s three home games away from home in the Cape of Love & Peace.
Chiefs go into the Polokwane City fixture high on confidence, after recording their fifth straight win, which includes last week’s CAF Champions League win over Volcan Club de Moroni.
The Amakhosi coach remains optimistic that his side is still on course to defend the Absa Premiership title: “Our title chase has never been put off. Anything can happen to log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. We have been there before, ask Stuart Baxter - at some point we were leading with twelve points and Sundowns overtook us to clinch the title. The power to stay on top requires a lot of mental strength. A slight hiccup can derail anybody’s efforts.”
Chiefs will host Polokwane City at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday, 23 February (kick-off is at 19:30).
Tickets for the Polokwane City match cost R40 and can be bought countrywide at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets.
Komphela describes Polokwane City as unpredictable and tricky: “We will look at their strengths and will make sure that we will be fully prepared.”
Accordingly, Amakhosi host Comorian side Volcan de Moroni at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 27 February (kick-off is at 19:30).
“We take them as they come,” mentions Komphela about the upcoming league and Champions League fixtures. “It is one game at the time. As long as we are winning we will take confidence to each match. We have to respect our supporters and the game by playing our strongest possible team for each encounter.”
