The Sport Heroes Walk Against HIV/AIDS was initiated by SABC Sports Presenter Cynthia Tshaka in 2002 to raise funds for people who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Willing sport heroes are invited to take part in what has turned to be an annual event.
Brand Manager, Dara Carroll explained to kaizerchiefs.com the Club’s involvement in the Walk for the first time this year, “Kaizer Chiefs has always participated in initiatives against AIDS and HIV. We were the first Club in 1998 in the country to have Aids insignia logo on our jerseys. This is to show our commitment to raise the awareness about this scourge that is affecting our country so badly. Nike, as our sponsors also participated in the walk and this is part of their CSI campaign.
The team is in full support of the Sport Heroes Walk Against HIV/AIDS. On the 1st December, Captain Jimmy Tau who was born in Kimberly will welcome the sport heroes in his hometown”.
Kaizer Chiefs coach, Muhsin Ertugral who was in attendance together with his Technical Team despite the results over the weekend, said it was important that players take time off their hectic schedules and participate in events of this nature.
