The Kaizer Chiefs legends played to a 2-2 draw against a KZN Legends XI on Youth Day.
The game was part of the Siyabonga Nkosi Youth Festival and took place at the Amajuba College Stadium, Madadeni.
Amakhosi went 1-0 up thanks to a rare goal from right-back Cyril Nzama. The assist was given by Doctor Khumalo, who played as the striker, having a fine game and showing his mastery of the ball.
The KZN XI, however, came back before halftime. Goalkeeper Brian Baloyi made an excellent save from a set-piece taken by Tsepo Tsoane. But Spiderman couldn’t hold on to the ball, providing the opponent with an easy tap in.
Siyabonga Nkosi came on as a substitute after the break, making a surprise guest appearance for Chiefs’ legends team. This happened under loud applause from the about 15 000 spectators at the fully packed stadium.
Chiefs again took the lead in the second half with the still speedy Tshepo Molatedi finishing well from close range.
However, again, the KZN XI managed to equalise, with 2-2 being the final score.
“It was overall a good game,” Nzama reflected on the encounter. “We could have done better, especially in the second half. We lost concentration.”
On his goal, Chiefs’ right-back commented with a big smile on his face: “I was excited! There was a good build-up on the left. Doctor provided the final pass and I finished.”
Wellington Manyathi had a magnificent game, playing in the centre of defence. “It was a nice game,” he reacted, before challenging his teammates to get fitter: “Our conditioning as a team is a concern. We must care to remain winners whenever representing the Kaizer Chiefs Brand.”
