Kaizer Chiefs Legends and Development Coaches Ryder Mofokeng, Ace Khuse and Lucky Stylianou took to the disadvantaged their legendary expertise in football, when participated in the community development work that took place in the Platinum City of Rustenburg.

The Amakhosi development coaching trio hosted hundreds of school kids - most of whom were drawn from the local areas of the Bojanala Platinum District - in a football coaching clinic they rendered in conjunction with the district municipality. Local coaches and teachers involved in sports development at local schools also took part in the project.

“The initiative culminates from our sound relations with the Executive Mayor of Bojanala District Municipality, Ray Motsepe whom we have worked with before. It is part of our giving back to communities using the little knowledge we have acquired in the game of football.

“We were involved with school kids aged between 12-16 years and had a privilege of working with local coaches in the area of Rustenburg and teachers who work with the boys at local schools. It was really a fulfilling experience for all those who participated in the initiative,” said Stylianou, Kaizer Chiefs Technical Manager for the Academy.

“Our presence there was received with lots of excitement as we also played a legends game against Pirates,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs Legends convincingly beat the Orlando Pirates Masters 2-1. Chiefs were trailing 1-0 in the first half. But matters took a turn for the better when Abel ‘Chaklas’ Shongwe equalised three minutes into the second half while Ace ‘Didi’ Khuse scored the winner few minutes later.

Innocent Sirovha, who is a Specialist in Sports Arts and Culture at the Bojanala District Municipality, also told kaizerchiefs.com that the initiative was part of the 2010 Awareness Mayoral Cup which is organised to build awareness on the much anticipated 2010 FIFA World Cup.

“We started with 192 teams who played in knockouts tournaments in whole Bojanala District, but participants must be registered under SAFA of the Bonajala District. We encourage participating teams to register to SAFA in the region so as to enhance organised and structured soccer development in our areas,” he said.

The competition is always graced by the presence of the Executive Mayor, Mr. Ray Motsepe, coaches and officials from professional football leagues who may be eying talent from the participants and receives an overwhelming support from football fanatics in the region.

“Both male and female teams take part in the competition. Winners in the male division smiled all the way to the bank with R40 000 prize money while female winners pocketed R20 000,” revealed Sirovha.
