Thirteen Kaizer Chiefs legends are travelling today, Friday, with a bus to Durban to attend Abednigo ‘Shaka’ Ngcobo’s funeral on Saturday. The former Amakhosi winger passed away last Saturday, 1 November.
Most of the legends travelling to Durban are former teammates of Ngcobo, like Joseph ‘Banks’ Sethlodi, Sylvester ‘City Late’ Kole, Lucky Stylianou, ‘Pelé’ Blaschke, Jackie Masike, XC Xaba and Ryder Mofokeng.
‘Shaka’ Ngcobo starred for Chiefs between 1972 and 1984, scoring numerous crucial goals and providing even more assists.
That so many of Ngcobo’s former teammates travel to Durban to show their respect indicates the love they have for him. “It is an indication of the big bond between the players at the time,” reflects Mofokeng, who captained the Amakhosi from 1975 to 1986. “Also, Shaka’s personality contributes… He was such a nice and humble person!”
The funeral will be held from 10am at the Umlazi Cinema, Umlazi, on Saturday, 8 November.
