Kaizer Chiefs, under the guidance of new head coach Muhsin Ertugral and his assistant in Kaizer Chiefs goal-scoring legend Fani Madida, will be looking to start building a formidable line up that will stand the Amakhosi in good stead for the 2007/2008 season.
Leopards coach Boebie Solomons will look to his players to produce the same sort of sparkling form which allowed them to have a good league run at the end of last season.
Should the match end level after 90 minutes, of soccer action, the destiny of the Limpopo Soccer Challenge trophy will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.
Benny Boshielo, CEO of Limpopo Tourism and Parks, whose organisation is the driving force behind the annual tournament which started last year, said: “The staging of the Limpopo Soccer Challenge forms part of our vision of promoting Limpopo as the leading eco-tourism destination and positioning Limpopo as an ultimate sports destination of choice.”
Kaizer Chiefs team manager Bobby Motaung said: “As the defending champions of the Limpopo Soccer Challenge, we are looking to give a very good performance, and to use this game as a dress rehearsal for other major tournaments that will follow.”
“The Limpopo Challenge will give us the opportunity to parade our new players and give them a platform to show what they are made of. Our news coach has been hard at work for the past two weeks and we call on all our supporters to go up to Limpopo and see the new Kaizer Chiefs.”
Leapards PRO Chief Thidiela said: “The Limpopo Soccer Challenge is the perfect platform for a Limpopo-based side like Lidoda Duvha to get their hands on an early-season trophy and doing it against the likes of Kaizer Chiefs will make the victory even sweeter.”
“We encourage our supporters to make their way to the Peter Mokaba stadium in great numbers in order to cheer our players on as we strive to give our local, loyal fans much to shout about.”
Musical act such as house music stars Revolution and pop queen Maduva will be a part of the entertainment line up that is set to put the soccer fans into party mood prior to the big match kickoff.
Tickets for the Limpopo Soccer Challenge are on sale at Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper and Computicket outlets nationwide at R20 (unreserved, adults), R10 (juveniles), R30 (grandstand). Gates open at 10h00 on match day.
