Kaizer Chiefs begin their CAF Champions League journey for the 2020/21 season against Cameroonian champions PWD Bamenda in Limbe, Cameroon this afternoon.
Coach Gavin Hunt travelled with a squad of 20 players from the registered 30 for this year’s competition.
Kaizer Chiefs were last in action on Tuesday against Swallows FC, while their opponents Bamenda have had friendly matches as the league is still on hold in Cameroon. Their last competitive match was in March.
Coach Hunt made five changes to the team when compared with Tuesday’s starting eleven. Notably, we will see Mulomowandau Mathoho play again after missing the team’s last two matches due to suspension.
Captain Itumeleng Khune who has played at this afternoon’s match venue, Limbe Omnisports Stadium for Bafana Bafana, will be in goal for Amakhosi.
Siyabonga Ngezana, Mathoho, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Daniel Cardoso will be in defence. Mathoho replace Philani Zulu in Amakhosi’s back four.
A completely different midfield of Njabulo Blom, Anthony Akumu Agay, Siphelele Ntshangase and Bernard Parker will start the game. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Kgotso Moleko, Willard Katsande and Lebogang Manyama who started the last game in midfield are on the bench.
The attacking duo of Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro remains unchanged.
The officiating team for the game is from West Africa and is led by Mihindou Mbina Gauthier in the middle of the park. He will be assisted by Urbain Ndong and Felix Aba’a Eyaga. The trio hails from Gabon. The fourth official is Germain Didier Simplice Ngulamba from neighbouring Central African Republic..
