It has been a good week for Kaizer Chiefs, written in the title race ten days ago the Amakhosi barricaded their way back into contention for Absa Premiership glory with a workman like 2-0 over SuperSport United on Wednesday evening.



The win over Gavin Hunt’s team places Chiefs just three points off the joint league leaders Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town, with four rounds of competition left to play.



Chiefs also confirmed their progress to the Quarter – Finals of the Nedbank Cup at the start of the week with a 4-0 triumph over BIDVest Wits, they will now be aiming to round off the week with a win over Mpumalanga Black Aces when.



They will take on Aces who currently lie at the foot of the log in an Absa Premiership match on Saturday evening in Polokwane.



Recent History



Chiefs and Aces met regularly in the 1980’s and 1990’s, the teams have in total clashed five times in the PSL era with their first meeting in the newly formed league during the 1996 – 1997 season seeing Chiefs win a nine goal thriller 7-2. Pollen Ndlanya scored a quartet of goals for the Amakhosi on that occasion, the five meetings between the sides in the PSL era have yielded 20 goals at an average of four goals per game. When the teams met earlier this season it was Knowledge Musona’s brace that saw Chiefs to a 2-0 victory.



Current Form



Aces have lost two, drawn two and won one of their last five games and find themselves in a fight to avoid relegation as they currently languish in sixteenth place on the log standings. Chiefs in the meantime ended a whole host of previous misfortunes against SuperSport United when they defeated Matsasantsa on Wednesday. It saw the Amakhosi win their first league game at home against SuperSport in twelve years, prior to that win Chiefs had drawn five league games in succession. In their last two games against BIDVest Wits and SuperSport Chiefs have managed to score 6 goals and will be hoping to keep up that scoring record on Saturday evening.



Missing out



Chiefs are not affected by suspensions for the game while Aces will be minus the offensive minded midfielder Marawaan Bantam.
