Ertugral’s team have lost just once in nine games over the past three months; and of their last five matches Chiefs have won three, and more importantly have lost just a single game. The recent win over Orlando Pirates would have done a lot for Chiefs' morale and confidence with Celtic on the horizon, as Chiefs share a fierce rivalry with Pirates, they have a similar one with Celtic.
Through the years the inter city or provincial Gauteng – Free State element has made the battle between the teams more interesting, over all though Chiefs have had the better of Celtic through the seventeen league matches contested between the teams.
Ertugral would be pleased with the fact that his team are a short step away from making it into next season’s top eight, and will be equally excited about the fact that the Amakhosi go into the match injury and suspension free. Mabhudi Khenyeza who missed out on the Soweto derby due to suspension will be looking to feature against Celtic, and will be aiming to take his goal tally into double figures.
Like Chiefs, their visitors on Wednesday evening Bloemfontein Celtic, have also hit a purple patch late in the season and come into this game with three wins on the trot. Petrus Mahlatsi scored a brace in their most recent ABSA Premiership match, a 2-0 win over BidVest Wits.
Prior to that, he was on the score board for Celtic when they defeated Jomo Cosmos 3-1 on the 30th April. Before Cosmos, the Free Staters recorded a 3-0 victory over Thanda Royal Zulu.
Mid season turbulence with uncertainty surrounding former coach Khabo Zondo affected Celtic, who started the season brightly but somehow dissipated towards the end of 2007 and found the going tough when fixtures resumed in February this year.
At the present time Celtic are languishing in 12th spot on the PSL table and have only an outside mathematical chance of finishing the season anywhere between positions 1-8.
