The encounter was used as final preparation for the new season which kicks off in earnest on Saturday when Chiefs face Mamelodi Sundowns.
Both teams eased into the match, feeling each other out and probing for chances but neither side posed much threat in the first stanza.
Both coaches rang in changes in the second half with Chiefs sending out almost an entirely different team to the one that started the match.
“As we’ve been doing during our preseason games, we wanted to try out a few combinations and give as many of our fit players a run,” said caretaker coach Patrick Mabedi.
The only goal of the match came in the 62nd minute courtesy of City’s Craig Martin.
Amakhosi created many chances but goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburg remained resolute and proved equal to whatever came his way.
On Saturday at 3pm, Amakhosi are away in Pretoria to kick off the new Absa Premiership season with a tough assignment against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versveld.
