Kaizer Chiefs went down to Bloemfontein Celtic in the Macufe Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Celtics showed more hunger from the first whistle, taking the game to Chiefs with Musa Nyatama dictating terms in the middle of the park.

The Amakhosi came close to scoring in the 8th minute with Matthew Rusike failing to control Kingston Nkhatha's pass, with only a goalkeeper to beat.

Most of the play was concentrated in the middle of the park with few chances created in the first half.

It was only in the 25th minute when Lucky Baloyi's foul, just outside the box, resulted in a goal. Vuyani Ntanga scored from the free kick with a beautifully taken curler, giving Brilliant Khuzwayo no chance.

In the 27th minute Lerato Lamola broke free from Nyatama's defense splitting pass, but Khuzwayo personified his name with a brilliant save. Halftime score 1-0 to Celtics.

Chiefs made a double substitution at halftime. Philani Cele and Reyaad Pieterse came on for Rusike and Khuzwayo respectively.

Chiefs threw everything they had into attack in the second half. First it was Nkosi who missed in the 51st minute, after twisting and turning Celtics defense, his shot went across goal with Thembalethu Moses well beaten.

In the 52nd minute Mandla Masango came close to equalising but his header went agonisingly wide.

Moses was called to save Cele's well taken shot in the 78th minute.

Celtics were on a back foot for most of the second half. Both Coaches used the second half to introduce young players. Chiefs brought on Lorenzo Gordhino for Mathoho (70th), Nicholas Mynhardt came on for Lucky Baloyi (81st) , Chris Matombo for Josta Dladla (87th) and Masango was replaced by Hendrick Ekstein in the 90th minute.

Fulltime score 1-0. The win takes Celtics's record in Macufe Cup to fourth equaling Chiefs record.
