Kaizer Chiefs lost 2-0 to Chippa United in the last match of the 2015/2016 Absa Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon. As a result of this loss, Amakhosi finished the season in fifth position on the league table.

Siboniso ‘Pa’ Gaxa got his first start in a league game since Chiefs’ 2-1 win over SuperSport United back in February. He replaced the injured Kgotso Moleko at the right-back position.

The Chippa match was Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane’s last in the Gold & Black, as he will leave the Amakhosi after this season.

The home side started the encounter at an easy pace with not enough running off the ball. However, despite this, Chiefs still got some chances to score.

But it was Chippa that netted the opener in the 18th minute in a counter attacking move with Buyani Sali finishing cleanly.

Amakhosi tried to come back, upping the pace of the game and even getting a few good opportunities to equalise.

Erick Mathoho probably came closest with a well-directed header, but the Chippa goalkeeper saved brilliantly, diving low to his left.

However, no goals came Chiefs’ way during the first 45 minutes of play.

Both teams entered the second half with an unchanged line-up.

Amakhosi tried to put some more pressure on the Chippa defence. It all resulted in a few great chances with the best coming the way of William Twala and Mathoho, but the ball failed to end in the back of the net.

Letsholonyane was substituted in the 56th minute by Lucky Baloyi. The Chiefs supporters loudly applauded ‘Yeye’, thanking him for his eight seasons as a Glamour Boy.

To make matters worse, instead of the home side finding the equaliser, Chippa extended their lead in the 67th minute thanks to a goal by Lerato Manzini.

That’s how it stayed, with Chiefs losing their last game of the season, 2-0.

It was overall a disappointing afternoon, also because Amakhosi dropped a position on the final league log, finishing the season in fifth position. Mpumalanga Black Aces went past Chiefs thanks to beating Free State Stars.

Amakhosi finished the season with 46 points from 30 matches, while Chippa are one point behind on 45 points (sixth place).
