A well taken brace from Katlego Mashego gave Orlando Pirates a 2-1 win in front of 51 616 fans at Coca-Cola Park on Saturday afternoon. The win meant that Orlando Pirates completed the league double over Kaizer Chiefs for the first time since the inception of the Premier Soccer League in 1996.



The hosts, Pirates look the stronger of the two sides in the first 15 minutes as Thulasizwe Mbuyane and Mashego came close on two occasions. Firstly, he dragged his shot wide following a mistake by Dominic Isaacs. Modise who was causing all the trouble on the left side set up for Katlego Mashego but the latter ballooned his shot as the hosts search for the opener.



The Glamour Boys started playing their normal game and in 32nd minute, Abia Nale forced a good save out of Moeneeb Josephs.



It was Orlando Pirates though who finished the first half a stronger of the two sides as they brought the best of Itumeleng Khune. The 21-year-old was at his best as he denied Katlego Mashego both shots from a tight angle, 0-0.



Muhsin Ertugral brought Jose Torrealba for Arthur Zwane in the 46th minute and he made an immediate impact when he came close opening the score-line on two occasions, first with a header that went just over the bar from David Mathebula’s corner kick. In the second occasion, he watched his shot going just wide of Moeneeb Josephs’ goals.



The hosts opened the scoring when a slight touch from Mashego hit the back of the net in the 71st minute.



Itumeleng Khune who was having a solid afternoon pulled another save denying Teko Modise just outside the 18 area. In what was an end to end action in the second half Kaizer Chiefs, were finally rewarded when pressure forced Lucas Thwala to pull one back in his own net, 1 all at Coca-Cola Park.



Mashego completed his brace in the in the 85th minute when he pounced on a rebound after Itumeleng Khune had done well to save a Sphelele Mthembu’s shot on one on one.



Chiefs will be looking at redeeming themselves next Wednesday when they welcome Santos at Loftus Stadium.
