Kaizer Chiefs will take on Mamelodi Sundowns in a highly anticipated MTN8 clash at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday, 05 August 2012.

This was confirmed during the announcement of the renewal of MTN sponsorship to the PSL for a further three years until 2014.

The announcement attended by PSL Chairman, Irvin Khoza, Club representative and captains of the eight Clubs that qualified for the competition this season was held at MTN headquarters in Johannesburg.

Kaizer Chiefs who were represented by Marketing & Communications delegation will travel to Pretoria on Sunday in what has been termed as the ‘battle of titans’ at Loftus Versfeld.

The two Clubs last met in the competition back in 2008 final in front of a packed Kings Park Stadium in Durban with current goalkeeper and captain, Itumeleng Khune becoming a hero after saving Esrom Nyandoro’s spot kick.

Khune commented speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Tuesday afternoon, “I do not remember much about that game. I do remember myself and goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker planning about the penalties. The game on Sunday though is a new game and history is out of the window,” said Khune.

“It’s a new challenge. Both teams have assembled good squads for the season and all these players will want to prove a point and every player will want to rise on the day. This is more like cup final to us and that is how we approaching it from our side. It is a test for our preparations and we are going all out for a win.”

“We would like to urge our supporters to come in numbers again and fill Loftus Versfeld like they did the last time the two teams met during 2011/12 season. We should make Sundowns uncomfortable in their backyard and when that happens it will rub off with the players on the field,” added Khune.

The MTN8 tournament dates are as follows:

• 3, 4 and 5 August (quarterfinals)

• 18 and 19 August (Semifinals 1st leg)

• 25 and 25 August (Semifinal 2nd leg)

• 22 September (Final)

The tournament will continue to honour the Last Fan Standing, Best Dressed Female Fans, MTN Last Journo Standing as it has been the case over the years.

Kick off for the Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs game is at 15:00.
