‘TnT’ as the player was affectionately known for his loves for books took time to speak to kaizerchiefs.com about his memories at the Chiefs.
Surprisingly, he does not mention the goal he scored against Manchester United in a friendly match back in 1993!
My transfer…
The club had been after me for about 9 months when I finally gave in and signed.
I had denied Moroka Swallows, Orlando Pirates and Alexander Blackpool my signature between 88 and 90.
After the double header featuring Grinaker Wanderers/ Chiefs and Pirates/Mmabatho Kicks Chiefs at Odi stadium in January '90 Chiefs, under Augusto Palacios, pressed me hard for my signature and I joined during my varsity holidays in June '90.
My debut….
It happened immediately after I arrived. I sat out a cup tie against Wits University (currently known as Bidvest Wits) and the following Wed I played against Bush Bucks and scored on debut.
My favourite game…
Not many unfortunately. I was used as a squad player for most of my time at Chiefs but enjoyed our (I think) JPS quarterfinal tie against Wits in which I played as a midfielder. The spotlight was off me and I was able to play freely from midfield.
My favourite derby…
We played the Bob Save semi against Pirates at FNB stadium and won 1-0. Doctor Khumalo got our goal but sadly the match was marred by crowd trouble.
The other derby that comes to my mind was a friendly at the Oppenheimer in Orkney.
(The friendly at Oppenheimer was sadly abandoned with 42 fans losing their lives following a stampede)
My favourite goal….
I think I scored 7 official goals from 21 matches. The most memorable was the Ellis Park 1-0 winner against Roger de Sa of Swallows. It was my second in two matches after I had joined.
Toughest Opponent…
Lucas Radebe! (Laughing out loud). Then coach, Jeff Butler used to assign him to me during the half pitch training and I'd never be able to touch the ball, literally. Besides him John Salter never allowed me to get the ball.
The Team I wanted to beat most…
It has to be Mamelodi Sundowns. I had a bad game against them the very first time and wished to correct that. They were a very cohesive unit and I had always enjoyed scoring against very organised teams during my days in Bopsol.
My best friend or roommate at Chiefs…
I had quite a few. Lucas Radebe was like family; Brian Baloyi later came from the reserves and we were quite close, there was also Rudolph Seale, Wellington Manyathi, Brian Mathe, Benjamin Reed and Jacob Tshisevhe.
