Kaizer Chiefs and the Mogale City Municipality unveiled elaborate plans on Wednesday for a R695 million, 55 000 all seater stadium development to be called the Amakhosi Stadium. Chiefs who will have a 20% stake in the new stadium will move into their new home in December 2008 and will become the first team in South Africa, to have a stake in the stadium that they would play their home matches in.

Located 40 km from the Johannesburg CBD Amakhosi Stadium will become Chiefs new home mid way through the 2008 – 2009, as Chiefs are penned to play their first games in the new stadium towards the end of 2008.

Chiefs new home which will be part of a wider sports precinct in the Mogale City, will boast an on site Kaizer Chiefs museum as well as an Amakhosi Mega Store and will also be the home of the Kaizer Chiefs youth development programme. The young Chiefs are expected to move into their new home in January 2009 and will play and practise on a new training centre, which will be erected for them adjacent to the main stadium.

The ball has already been set in motion as the Gauteng Provincial Government, have already begun with the process of developing and improving current road and rail infrastructure around the stadium area. The cost of the development of public areas leading to the stadium and the improvement of public access via foot or other means of transportation will be taken care of by the provincial government.

The Mogale Municipality have also embarked on a project to upgrade areas around the stadium, in order to add value to fans attending Chiefs games visitors, thereby enhancing their experience in the Mogale City. In addition shopping, dining and other entertainment will also be added around the stadium precinct.

For Amakhosi chairman Kaizer Motaung Amakhosi stadium development is a kick in the right direction for the club as he adds “I am happy that we have been able to add value to our team by adding to our list of titles and other achievements our own home ground”. Equally excited was Mogale City Mayor Koketso Calvin Seerane who added “Kaizer Chiefs taking up residency in our municipality will add many commercial benefits to our town and we are looking forward to welcoming them to the Mogale City”.

Chiefs now have roughly a twenty eight month wait before they can enter their new Kraal and take up residency in what will be a truly state of the art facility. From now till then, Chiefs will be out to win as many trophies as possible in order to fill up the trophy cabinets at the Amakhosi museum, which will be built adjacent to the stadium.
