The 180th official meeting between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates kicks off this afternoon at a sold-out FNB stadium, as the two arch-rivals battle it out for three valuable points and bragging rights in the DStv Premiership. There will be about 90 000 people in the stadium - and millions watching on television – to be entertained for 90 minutes this afternoon by South Africa’s biggest Clubs from Orlando East and Orlando West in Soweto.

The match, dubbed the big Soweto Derby, was first played in 1970, after the formation of South Africa’s biggest Club, Kaizer Chiefs in Phefeni, Soweto.

Amakhosi are the more successful Club in the Soweto Derby, with 74 victories while the Buccaneers have only recorded 46 wins, with 54 matches being drawn.

Both outfits were in action earlier this week - Chiefs entertained Lamontville Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium and beat the Durban side 1-0, with young Wandile Duba scoring a beauty in his first start for Amakhosi. Pirates on the other hand played to 1-1 draw against bottom-placed Cape Town Spurs at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.

The teams are separated by a single point on the DStv Premiership log. Pirates are fifth with 30 points after 19 matches. Amakhosi are sixth with 29 points in their 19 outings this season.

The Glamour Boys are without the suspended Edmilson Dove and the experienced Keagan Dolly, who picked up an injury after Tuesday’s game.

Coach Cavin Johnson has made four changes in the team when compared to the team that started the game on Tuesday.

The changes will see Reeve Frosler replace Njabulo Ngcobo at the back, Edson Castillo comes in for Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Keagan Dolly’s place is taken by Mduduzi Mdantsane, and the last change is that of Ashley Du Preez preferred to Duba.

Amakhosi will try and deal with the Seas Robbers using a 4-3-3 formation.

‘Mr Cleansheet’ Bruce Bvuma is the goalkeeper.

The back four are S’fiso Hlanti on the left, Njabulo Ngcobo and Given Msimango at the centre of defence and Zitha Kwinika playing on the right.

Yusuf Maart, Mdantsane and Sibongiseni Mthethwa are holding midfielders.

The wingers are Pule Mmodi, who will be on the left and Christian Saile who attacks from the right.

Tuesday’s goalscorer Duba willl leads the attack for Chiefs.

Maart will captain the team.

The man blowing the whisle is Jelly Chavani. His will be assisted by Kgara Mokoena and Khamusi Razwimisani. The fourth official is Buhlebendawo Jobela

The DStv Premiership Soweto Derby between The Glamour Boys and Amabhakabhaka will be start at 15:30 at FNB Stadium in Nasrec. The match is live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv, SABC 1 and SABC radio stations - with regular updates of the match on X (Twitter) @KaizerChiefs.
