Chiefs nominated Team of the Year

Kaizer Chiefs was nominated in the category of Team of the Year in the 2013 SA Sports Awards. The announcement was made this morning at a breakfast function, held at Gallagher Estate, Midrand. The event was broadcast live on Sabc 2, Morning Live as part of TNA Business Breakfast Brief.



The Amakhosi have enjoyed a good season during 2012 - 13 season winning a Championship and Cup double.



Chiefs and Bafana Bafana Captain, Itumeleng Khune was nominated in two categories, Sportstar of the Year and Sportsman of the Year. Khune won the Player of the Year awards for both Psl and Kaizer Chiefs in 2013.



More than 19 categories will form part of the 2013 Awards.



They include Sport Star of the Year; School team of the year; Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year; Developing school team of the Year; Indigenous Games star of the year; Sportsman and Sportswoman with disability; Volunteer of the year; Coach of the Year; Administrator of the Year; Team of the Year; and a new category for the most transformed federation of the Year.

Representing the Amakhosi at the announcement were Marketing Director Jessica Motaung, Corporate Communications Manager Vina Maphosa, Marketing Coordinator Thato Matuka, player Reneilwe Letsholonyane and nominee Itumeleng Khune.



Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com at the event Jessica Motaung said; "We are grateful for being nominated as Team of the Year. It is a great recognition for the hard work that we continue to put in the club. We are honoured to be nominated in this category with SA Rugby and The Proteas. It happens on the birthday of the Chiefs's Chairman and we would like to take this opportunity to wish him a happy birthday.



We are happy to see our captain Khune also nominated in the two categories. The competition is tough but being nominated is recognition."



A total prize money of R3,7m will be awarded to winners in each category, with the first prize of R1m plus a luxury car going to the Sport Star of the Year. This is a tenfold increase in prize money in this category from last year.



Present at the event were Minister of Sports and Recreation Fikile Mbalula in his usual razzmatazz mode, Sascoc President Gideon Sam and many other dignitaries.



The awards will be held at Sun City on the 17th of November 2013.
