The captains of Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane City both spoke out strongly against the attacks on foreigners in South Africa before their Absa Premiership match kicked off.

“As footballers, we call for the return to the principles of Ubuntu,” stressed Amakhosi captain Tefu Mashamaite. “Ubuntu means a person born in Harare, Maputo or Pakistan is my teammate and brother. I speak out against Xenophobia.”

Polokwane City’s captain Jabulani Maluleke added the following: “Violence cannot be a solution to any of our problems. Today, football unites to spread the message of peace and tolerance. I say no to Xenophobia.”
