Kaizer Chiefs can confirm the promotion of 19-year-old Njabulo Blom from our reserves to the senior side. He has signed a four-year deal.
“It is part of our development process to identify talent for the first team,” said coach Ernst Middendorp, “Blom is a different kind of player, one who works very hard on improving his game.”
Born in Dobsonville, Soweto, he plays as a centre-back, but the German coach feels that Blom could also be positioned as a defensive midfielder.
“He could come handy in the holding midfield role,” the coach said. “It is nice for a coach to have such a versatile player in the squad. He is a very interesting player with a good profile.
“Njabulo started working with us (in the senior team) when I arrived at the club in December 2018. He will learn more as we go along. And, if selected for the upcoming Under-20s World Cup, Njabulo will also pick up immense experience from playing against countries like Argentina.”
‘Stoppa’, as Blom is affectionately known, will join other recent graduates from the Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development Academy, such as Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Bruce Bvuma, Happy Mashiane and Emmanuel Letlotlo.
