The Zimbabwean football association have called up four Chiefs players for the Zimbabwean national team’s 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against the Cape Verde Islands, which will take place on the 10th of October in Harare.

The ‘Warriors’ drew their first qualifying game earlier in September away to Liberia, Amakhosi defender Thomas Sweswe and striker Knowledge Musona who was on target in that match are both recalled to the team after featuring in the first game, while Zhaimu Jambo and Tinashe Nengomasha make a return to the squad.

Chiefs defender Jambo is pleased to have received the call up and is hoping to put up an impressive display against the Cape Verde which he is hoping will help him win back his place in the Chiefs squad.

“It is to my advantage that I have been called up and hopefully I will feature in the game, I have the chance to play some competitive football for my country and I must make this opportunity count in my favour. Hopefully I can do well and it will get me back on track towards seeing more action for Chiefs” explained Jambo.

Nengomasha who featured for Zimbabwe at the 2004 and 2006 Nations Cup Finals did not expect to be recalled to the team so soon after just returning to competitive action, but has welcomed the chance to once more represent his country.

As he said of this “after the not so good week I have had it is welcome news to have been called up for this game against the Cape Verde, it will be great to go back and play for my country again and meet my friends and team mates who I have not seen for a while”.

Tinashe also holds the view that Zimbabwe have an abundance of talent in their squad and qualifying for the nations cup will help the national become more competitive on the continent, “we have players like Knowledge who are young and the team needs to ensure that for the sake of these players we are successful. They can only get better if we get to play in big competitions like the Nations Cup.”

Zimbabwe are currently second in Group A along with Liberia, Mali and Cape Verde who currently lead the group.
