Kaizer Chiefs beat First Division side Magesi FC 2-0 to reach the final of the FAME Charity Cup, which will be taking place today at Polokwane’s Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The goals were scored by Lucky Baloyi (22nd minute) and Hendrick ‘Pule’ Ekstein (76th minute).
Amakhosi coach Steve Komphela fielded for this first game mostly players that didn’t take part in last Saturday’s Carling Black Label Champion Cup clash against Orlando Pirates.
For example, Luthando Sixhaso started in goal, while otherwise several new signings like Edmore Chirambadare, Michelle Katsvairo, Enocent Mkhabela and Sibusiso Khumalo got an opportunity to start.
Meanwhile, Siyanda Xulu was also handed the chance to impress the technical.
Chiefs dominated the first half, although this didn’t result in many goal scoring chances. However, Baloyi, who had a good game, did find the net in the first 45 minutes of play. The defensive midfielder was wearing the captaincy armband for this encounter.
Magesi came out of the dressing room for the second half a much more determined side, trying to close down the Amakhosi defenders very early.
The First Division side even created a few small opportunities, but it was ‘Pule’ Ekstein who extended the lead in the second half, pounding on an error committed by a Magesi-defender who let the ball bounce unnecessarily.
Ekstein entertained the Amakhosi supporters a few times at the stadium with some excellent actions.
Chiefs will face Baroka FC in the final, kick-off at 17:30. The newly promoted Absa Premiership side beat Black Leopards 1-0 earlier on the day.
