A win over Amazulu in their next Absa Premiership match could really prove to be a ‘Happy Friday’ for the Amakhosi, as they aim to win their third match in a row. Should they be able to do so, they will also climb up to within sniffing distance of the top eight position. During their past two matches, one a league encounter against Free State Stars and their most recent outing in the Nedbank Cup when they faced Ajax Cape Town, Chiefs were convincing winners and managed to score a combined total of six goals in two matches. Muhsin Ertugral will believe that his team can win their first match against AmaZulu since December 2006 on Friday evening, based on their performances against Stars and Ajax.

AmaZulu for their part will be looking to build on the foundations of their recent success which has seen them score fourteen goals in their last match against lower league opponents in the Nedbank Cup.

Former South Africa national team coach Clive Barker has at times waved a magic wand and it has ensured that Shoes Moshoeu continues to work against the sands of time, and under Barker Dumisani Ngwenya has hit the back of the net nine times. Barker will also be hoping that his team display more consistency as they have ended up losing matches that they should have walked at a canter, a case in point is their defeat around a month ago to Bloemfontein Celtic. It was a match where the Usuthu largely dominated but could not make their domination of the game count in their favour.

Earlier in the season

The teams came face to face on the 5th December 2007 and that was the first time they had met this season. It was AmaZulu as the home team who pretty much held sway in the game and were the more creative party. Emille Baron made some fantastic saves in the first half at point blank range from Dumisani Ngwenya and Nhlanhla Zwane to keep his goal in tact. Chiefs went ahead when Kaizer Motaung Junior headed home Siphiwe Tshabalala’s 53rd minute corner to push Chiefs ahead, three minutes later and some what fortuisly AmaZulu drew level.

Baron and Derrick Spencer both attacked Effort Sithole’s pass from the left, Ngwenya knocked into Spencer from behind who in turn hit his own keeper Baron and the lose ball rolled onto Shoes Moshoeu who scored into the empty net. Dumisani Ngwenya fell over at the vital moment after he had rounded Baron, and with an inviting net in front of him he miss kicked the ball and fell over. Onismor Bhasera became the first Chiefs player sent off this season when he received his marching orders for pulling down Siyabonga Mkhwanazi on his way to goal.
