With shocked Chiefs 2-1 in the first round of the Supa Eight at Oppenheimer Stadium in Orkney. The two sides will meet again this Saturday at the same venue this time in a league match.
"We learnt from our mistakes the last time. It will be a totally different ball game on Saturday," promised Amakhosi coach Ted Dumitru.
"It will be impossible to have the same type of circumstances as we had the day of the cup-tie. Emotionally we were not in the right frame of mind. It was only at our pre-match meal on that day when we learned of Orlando Pirates striker Lesley Manyathela's death.
"Also we were destabilised when I was forced to substitute injured midfielder Jabu Mendu early in the first half. And lastly we were the architects of our own downfall by giving away two goals through defensive blunders."
Chiefs bounced back after that cup defeat in the best possible way when they defeated Sundowns 2-0 in their opening league game at Ellis Park two weeks ago.
Chiefs showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with during the long PSL season. "Wits caught us on a bad day. Make no mistake, they won't find it as easy this time.
"We aim to make amends for the early setback and what better place than at the venue where we lost last month," said a fired-up Dumitru yesterday.
The knowledgeable and vastly-experienced coach has an injury-free squad to select from.
"Believe it or not, that has given me a rather pleasant problem. It means that I could have difficulty in leaving certain players out."
Dumitru says he has sorted out his defensive problem which allowed Wits to score twice in the cup-tie. "I am happy at the moment with Patrick Mabedi and Fabian McCarthy at the centre of defence.
"However, Peter Matshitse comes into the reckoning for a place. He has been working really hard and has shown he has the hunger to win his first-team place back. I will have to weigh up my options," Dumitru says.
The Romanian-born coach added that the spirit was sky-high in the Amakhsoi camp. "We are much better-prepared. We expect Wits to come at us.
"But we will be ready and this time there is no question of us slipping up. We have shown we are a class side and will prove that against Wits on Saturday.
"I am not writing Wits off but I think this time it will be us who are smiling after the 90 minutes are up," warned Dumitru.
