Kaizer Chiefs Reserves drew 1-1 to University of Pretoria Reserves in a MultiChoice Diski Challenge encounter.

Amakhosi came 1-0 up thanks to a first half goal from midfielder Khotso Malope, but Tuks equalised late in the match, which took place at Soweto’s Nike Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Amakhosi was strengthened with five players from the senior squad, Lorenzo Gordinho, Ovidy Karuru, Andisiwe Mtsila, Lucky Baloyi and Brilliant Khuzwayo, who was the captain.

Chiefs were the better side in the first half, getting several good chances to score, especially striker Emmanuel Letlotlo who was unlucky not to find the back of the net.

In the end, it was Malope who opened the score in the 26th minute.

Tuks, however, came out of the break the more forceful side, while Amakhosi seemed to have lost some direction.

Brilliant Khuzwayo was fantastic in goal, showing good form and making clear that he has fully recovered from his hand injury. But there was little the goalkeeper could do to stop Lucky Mathosi’s shot from close range, which ended up in goal, 1-1.

Overall, the draw was probably a fair result, even though Chiefs did get some fine opportunities to extend the lead in the second half, before Tuks equalised.

Amakhosi’s reserve side have now collected five points from five games in the MDC.

The next MultiChoice Diski Challenge fixture of Kaizer Chiefs Reserves is against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Sunday, 25 October (kick-off is at 12:00).
