Chiefs’ reserves face Pirates on Sunday

With the first team returning this past week from the holiday break, Kaizer Chiefs’ reserve team did likewise as they went back to the field of play, gearing up for the second half of this season’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge.

The MDC team has been hard at work sharpening their skills, as they look to make a charge in the reserve league following a strong showing in the first half of the season that has seen the team occupy fifth spot on the standings and five points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who are currently on 22 points.

Amakhosi will make the short trip to the East Rand Township of Daveyton on Sunday, 15 January 2017, to take on Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates in what promises to be the headline fixture of the festival at the Sinaba stadium. Kick-off for the match is scheduled for 14:00.

Amakhosi’s reserve team coach Arthur Zwane has expressed the importance of starting 2017 on a high and sees this match as the perfect opportunity to do just that.

“If you want to start the year on a good note you need to start by winning,” says Zwane.

“It’s important that we win our game on Sunday against Pirates and being our first game of the year, we need to set the standard for the year going forward. It’s also key for the players to enjoy themselves especially playing against our Soweto rivals. We want the boys to have fun, but at the same time they must understand the importance of collecting maximum points.”

Zwane’s men will be boosted by the welcome return of midfielders Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Wiseman Meyiwa and striker Itumeleng Shopane, who were part of the South African Under-20 side that did duty at the Cosafa Cup late last year in Rustenburg.

Match tickets for the weekend MDC Festival will not be available at TicketPro. However, fans that wish to attend the match can collect their free ticket at Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton, on Thursday and Friday from 13:00 to 18:00

No tickets are available on Saturday and Sunday.
