Kaizer Chiefs Reserve team will be looking to build on their success from their season opener this past Sunday which saw them emerge 4-2 victors over Mamelodi Sundowns, when they feature in their second DStv Diski Challenge game against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila. The Chiefs Reserve team led by current Chiefs first team assistant coach Arthur Zwane and aided by another of Chiefs first team deputy coaches Dillon Sheppard, will take on TTM on Sunday 13 December at 13:00.

Chiefs Reserves coach Arthur Zwane believes his team is progressing well but that there remains a lot of hard work still to be done to get them at a level which they are striving for.

“We are still trying to get fitness levels up to scratch,” says Zwane. “We take it game by game. The guys have been out for a long time, so we will build them up gradually. As time goes on, they will be at the level that we want them to be. Looking at how long the lads have been inactive; we could not expect them to be at the highest level.”

Having just had a fortnight to work with his team before their opening weekend win against Sundowns, Zwane believes that there are a lot of good indicators to take forward. “There were a number of good individual performances,” he adds, “the players came to the party and affected the result. Collectively we can still build but I must commend the character of the team. We expected the first game to be difficult.

“We started training two weeks before our first game. We are happy and I believe we can improve. Winning is a good confidence booster.”

Zwane is also happy to have given a number of players game time as he believes it will help their development and progress. “Players such as Darrel Matsheke, Lebohang Lesako, Thabo Mokoena and Happy Mashiane got good game time,” he enthuses. “It is important for them to play as much as they can and in the future, they can be at a good level when called up to the first team.”

For the Chiefs Reserve team coach, the continuous development of his players is key. “This coming weekend we look to develop further and put in a positive performance which can bring us positive results,” he concludes. “Individual performances to gain confidence are key as the players build up towards first team activity in the future.”

TTM began the DStv Diski Challenge with a loss to Maritzburg United in their opening game, while Chiefs will be looking to make it two wins out of two.

The game will be live on DStv Channel 202 on Sunday, with kick-off set for 13:00. The game will take place in Randburg West of the Johannesburg CBD at the Randburg Rugby Club.
