Chiefs Reserves lose to Chippa

A goal from Lerato Manzini was enough to see Chippa United’s reserve side walk away with a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs’ reserve team in a MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) match at the Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday morning.

Arthur Zwane’s men went into this encounter missing five of their regulars, who are away with the South African Under-20 side ahead of this year’s Cosafa Cup.

In the first ten minutes, the hosts showed their intent, keeping possession of the ball, with Siphelele Mthembu the first to take a shot inside the Chippa United box that went inches wide.

Amakhosi continued to pile on the pressure and it was again Mthembu, who benefited from some good work down the right flank from Siyabonga Ngezana who did well to spot the unmarked striker. However, he miscued his shot and it was easily collected by Chippa goalkeeper Veli Mothwa.

Chiefs controlled the proceedings with their creativity, but with four minutes to go to the interval they were made to pay for their missed chances as Chippa United took the lead through Lerato Manzini, who unleashed a powerful shot inside the box that beat Bruce Bvuma in the Chiefs goal.

It was 1-0 to the visitors at half-time.

Chiefs returned from the break rejuvenated and started the half in a similar fashion. In the 47th minute, Mpho Khumalo, who had been the busier of the midfielders in the first-half, did well to get behind his man on the left. His cross into the box, however, just missed the onrushing Ryan Moon.

Five minutes later Tshidiso Monamodi, who came on for Goolam Burhaan at the break, spotted Mpho Khumalo’s run into the danger zone, and the latter, with only the keeper to beat, took his shot wide of target.
