With a host of players missing the game as they are international duty Amakhosi Coach Vladimir Vermezovic confirmed to Kaizerchiefs.com that he will be using the game against Celtic to assess a number of his fringe players.
“The Macufe Cup is an opportunity for players who did not play until now to get to play in a match, and it is also for me to see in what condition they are in and where they are at the moment as they have not played a lot of games” explained the Chiefs mentor.
The trip to Bloemfontein provides the Chiefs players with a change in scenery as they have not been in action since the 26th Of September, and the Chiefs coach has also welcomed the chance to further evaluate the recovery process of players who have been sitting on the sidelines due to injury.
As he said of this “we have players like George Lebese and Steven Nkana who are coming back from injury, this game against Celtic will also give me a chance to check their fitness.”
While the Macufe Cup game maybe dubbed as friendly game Chiefs approach for the game will be far from friendly as the Amakhosi coach explained, “for us every game is a competitive game and that will be the same for this game. Also it is most important for us now to focus on the league and the Telkom Cup.”
Chiefs will return after the game on Sunday from Bloemfontein, Vermezovic has said the he expects his players who are on duty across the African continent this weekend as well as in Iran on international commitments to be back early in the new week and is hopeful that they will return in good health.
