The arrival of the Chiefs players at the Vodacom stand brought the hall to a near stand still as the Amakhosi players appeared on a stage and introduced themselves to the large crowd, with striker Shaun Bartlett clearly the favourite as he received a huge roar of approval from the female Chiefs fans in the crowd when he put his credentials forward.
The stand, which was located in Hall 5 also won three awards at the 2007 Rand Show - which included prizes for the best first time stand, most interactive stand and the grand prize of being the best overall stand at the 2007 Rand Show.
Once that was over, the group of players which included the likes of Siyabonga Nkosi, Tinashe Nengomasha, Derrick Spencer, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Rowen Fernandez, took time out taking photographs and signing autographs for fans.
Chiefs goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez had clearly enjoyed his first visit to the show since 2005 said; “I must say I had a great time not just inside the show grounds sitting in traffic trying to get inside was also very exciting, it was really nice to be at the Vodacom stand at interact with the fans. We do not get the opportunity to talk to fans every week on a one to one basis so it was good to hear what they thinking; overall the atmosphere at the show was wonderful it was nice to see so many people having good clean fun.”
Fernandez known for his excellent ball distribution tried to catch the crowd out with a long shot when he introduced himself as a striker, but the crowd reacted quicker and burst into laughter.
Fernandez said afterwards; "I thought I will just have some fun with the crowd see how awake they were, Chiefs fans know everything about their team so you can’t easily get one past them, they make good goalkeepers."
Amakhosi midfielders Siyabonga Nkosi and Siphiwe Tshabalala also got in on the act and kept the crowd entertained with some sublime skill, Nkosi added; "the crowd wanted to see some tricks so Siphiwe and I obliged it was fun and I really enjoyed getting in on the activities and having the opportunity to entertain the crowd."
The Chiefs players rounded off their visit to the rand show by browsing through a number of the other halls, once they were done at the Vodacom Stand and were unable to progress much as they were stopped regularly by fans who missed their appearance at the Vodacom stand seeking autographs. As always the players were happy to oblige and left the rand show having won over many more admirers.
