Kaizer Chiefs celebrated their first win of the season when they beat AmaZulu by 3-1 in an engaging encounter played at a packed Chatsworth Stadium.

The Amakhosi had not scored in 270 minutes and they scored three on the afternoon through Siphiwe Tshabalala from the penalty spot, Nkosinathi Nhleko and David Mathebula.

Vladimir Vermezovic called for experience following a midweek defeat against Bidvest Wits with veteran winger Arthur Zwane, midfielder Gerald Sibeko, and captain Jimmy Tau all getting their first start of the season.

Arthur Bartman on his second spell with the Club replaced Kabelo Metsimetsi in goals as Chiefs searched for their first win on the campaign. It was Chiefs who threatened first when Gerald Sibeko’s well taken free kick was saved by an alert Kalililo Kakonje.

Arthur Bartman produced two good saves when he denied striker, Sthembiso Dlamini and Sandile Gumede as the home side searched for an early goal.

The Glamour Boys were awarded a penalty by referee, Jerome Damon when Pere Ariweriyai fouled Nkosinathi Nhleko inside the 18 area box. Siphiwe Tshabalala who had his stoppage time penalty saved midweek redeemed himself with a well taken penalty, 1-0 to Chiefs.

The Soweto born Tshabalala named by coach, Joel Santana to the Bafana Bafana squad to face Germany and Ireland respectively was in the thick of things as his 40 metre pass set up for Nkosinathi Nhleko to score his first league goal for the Club.

The hosts were quick to reply as Chintu Kampamba rose the highest to pull one goal back for AmaZulu. The latter had to clear off his goal line few minutes later following some piece of good work from Nkosinathi Nhleko who set up for Arthur Zwane.

Chiefs suffered a blow when Jose Torrealba replaced scorer Nkosinathi Nhleko in the 42nd minute of the game. The burly striker collided with goalkeeper, Kalililo Kakonje as he set up for Arthur Zwane.

Chiefs started the second half like house on fire and it was not a surprise when midfielder, David Mathebula scored a beauty from a tight angle, 3-1 to Chiefs. Substitute, Ayanda Dlamini took an advantage of Chiefs shaky defence when he pulled one goal back for the hosts in the 70th minute.

Arthur Bartman denied AmaZulu an equaliser when he tipped over the bar Siboniso Gumede’s effort who was trying to lobby the goalkeeper from 40 yard out.

The afternoon belonged to the Glamour Boys though as Vladimir Vermezovic’s men registered their first win of the season.
