Kaizer Chiefs were knocked out of Nedbank Cup after losing 1-0 to Free State Stars in front of enthusiastic crowd at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.

The match saw legend, Donald ‘Ace’ Khuse taking in charge of the team following the departure of Vladimir Vermezovic on Thursday. Doctor Khumalo, also a Chiefs legend sat alongside his former teammate Khuse on the bench.

However it was Stars who stole the show when Done Wome scored a brilliant header in the 60th minute handing Stars the victory over the Glamour Boys.

The Glamour Boys started the game looking the more dangerous of the two sides with on form Siphiwe Tshabalala making life difficult for the visitors.

It took 24 minutes though before the real chance was created in the game when a brilliant run from Willard ‘Cheese & Onion’ Katsande ended with Kennedy Mweene denying the Zimbabwean his first goal in the Chiefs colours.

Two minutes later, Siphiwe Tshabalala who was the most industrious player in the gold and black jersey watched his shot being saved again by Mweene.

With end to end action, Arthur Bartman was forced to dive low to deny Edward Manqele after his shot came off defender Jimmy Jambo.

It was goalless at halftime.

The Glamour Boys again started the better of the two sides in the second half with striker, Sthembiso Ngcobo forcing Kennedy Mweene to pull another good save following a neat play between the lanky striker and Siphiwe Tshabalala.

Shabba was in the thick of things again in the 76 coming close levelling the matters but it was Stars who advanced to the next round of the competition.
