First there was doom and gloom for Kaizer Chiefs fans when star striker David Radebe was red-carded in the 57th minute, then came the light as Chiefs fought back strongly to finally beat Dynamos 3-1 to advance to the finals of the Telkom Charity Cup at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Referee Jerome Damon, who had cautioned Radebe for an infringement in the 55th minute, had no option but send the player for an early shower two minutes later for a second bookable offence, in which he handled the ball inside the Dynamos penalty box.

Few missiles were thrown inside the pitch as a sign of dissatisfaction for the red card, but order was restored before matters got out of hand.

Dynamos, the Limpopo-based side who are yet to make an appearance in the Premier Soccer League, took advantage of their numerical superiority and scored in the 70th minute after Adam Ndlovu converted a cross from Josias Macamo, a former Chiefs man.

But their joy was short lived as Jabulani Mendu equalised in the 74th minutes through a blistering 20 metre pile-driver from an Arthur Zwane's indirect free-kick on the edge of the Dynamos penalty area.

Chiefs' evergreen, John "Shoes" Moshoeu, who came on for Thabo Mooki in the 55th minute, scored Chiefs second goal in the 80th minute as his shot ricocheted off the up-right and hit the back of the net leaving a fully-stretched Kitenge tumbling amidst deafening noise from thousands of relieved Amakhosi fans.

Another late substitute, Rene Richards, lived up to the expectations of coach Ted Dumitru when he put matters beyond doubt in the 89th minute.

A poor clearance by Dynamos defender Tonic Chabalala saw Richards pounce on the ball to stab home the beauty, with only second remain on the referee's watch.

The victory pitted Chiefs against Sundowns, who beat Black Leopards 3-0 in the first semifinal, in the final of this year's edition of the Charity Cup at 16h00.
