Kaizer Chiefs 2 (Musona 15, Nhleko 89)
Bay United 0
Kaizer Chiefs coach, Vladimir Vermezovic kick off 2009/10 season preparations on a positive note as the Glamour Boys beat Bay United by 2-0 in the second semi final of the Premier’s Cup at the new Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
New boys, Knowledge Musona and Nkosinathi Nhleko found the back of the net in each half for rampant Chiefs.
The Glamour Boys started the stronger of the two sides and it was not a surprise young sensation, Knowledge Mosuna opened the scoring in the 15th following some neat touches between stylish, David Mathebula and the industrious, Abia Nale.
Chiefs under the tutelage of Serbian, Vladimir Vermezovic were the better side in the first half and looked like scoring every time they charged forward.
The Serbian had employed new recruit from Zimbabwe, Knowledge Mosuna alone up front and Tshepo Bulu operating just behind him while Kaizer Motuang Jr and Abia Nale were deployed on the right and left wing respectively a system that seemed to confuse the opponents.
David Mathebula forced a good save out of Arthur Bartman after Bay defence failed to clear Abia Nale’s free kick. Knowledge Musona was withdrawn five minutes before half time owing it to an overzealous tackle from Jermaine Christian.
The burly striker did not waste time as he came close opening his account for the Amakhosi but watched his effort going over the bar, 1-0 at half time.
Vermezovic introduced, Josta Dladla in the beginning of second stanza and the Chiefs no. 9 did not waste time as he superbly set up for Nkosinathi Nhleko who ballooned his shot. Nhleko was in the thick of things again in the 65th minute but watched his header going narrowly wide of Arthur Bartman’s goals.
Thela Ngobeni who had a quiet afternoon made his first save of the game when he denied Mabhele Galada from close range.
Nhleko who had troubled Bay United the whole afternoon was finally rewarded for his efforts as his solo run ended in the back of the net sending Chiefs through to the finals to meet Supersport United who beat Bloemfontein Celtic earlier on the day.
The final will kick off at 5 pm.
