Kaizer Chiefs 2 (Torrealba 13, Motaung Jr. 54)

Orlando Pirates 0

Two flying headers, first from Venezuelan born striker, Jose Torrealba and another one from Kaizer Motaung Jr. were the deal breaker between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in a pulsating encounter played at EPRU Stadium, in the Nelson Mandela Bay. Kaizer Chiefs will now play Manchester United at Loftus Stadium in Tshwane on Saturday, 26 July 2008 starting at 15h00. This was the second loss for Bucs in a space of 72 hours after succumbing 1-0 defeat from Manchester United in Durban on Tuesday night.

Kaizer Chiefs started where they left off in the game against Manchester United last weekend in Cape Town as they attacked Pirates from the first minute. It was not a surprise when Chiefs took the lead via a well taken header at the 13th minute from Jose Torrealdba following a sublime corner kick from Tshabalala.

Then from another Siphiwe Tshabalala’s corner, defender Jonathan Quartey’s shot went wide after a clever flick by Tinashe Nengomashe who had a tremendous game in the middle of the park. With the opponents defence at sea, Kaizer Chiefs took advantage as Gert Schalkwyk’s scorching strike forced Moneeb Joseph to pull a brilliant save.

On the other end his opposite number, Itumeleng Khune who could not to be outdone pulled a fine save denying Gilbert Mushangazhike’s from a close range. This was following a good cross from left back, Innocent Mdledle.

Chiefs were the better of the two sides in the first stanza with Tinashe Nengomashe new signing, Reneilwe Letsholonyane dominating the midfield.

Kaizer Chiefs coach, Muhsin Ertugral pulled a master stroke at the beginning of a second half bringing Kaizer Motaung Jr. and Siphelele Mthembu for Gert Schalkwyk and David Mathebula respectively. The move paid dividends as Kaizer Motaung Jr.’s flying header at the 54th minute found the back of the net following yet another brilliant corner from Siphiwe Tshabalala.

Itumeleng Khune once again proved why he is the best goalkeeper in the country when he pulled another fantastic save denying Gilbert Mushangazhike from a well taken free kick that took a slight deflection from the Kaizer Chiefs’s wall. Then from a rebound he pulled another save denying Joseph Kamwendo from close range. However the latter was ruled offside by the referee.

Coach, Muhsin Ertugral threw Gerald Sibeko to consolidate the lead and Chiefs domination in the middle of the park and that worked wonders as Orlando Pirates could not find any space to claw their way back into the game.

The two goals scored by the Glamour Boys meant that Chiefs contributed R100, 000 to an initiative by Vodacom to donate R50 000 for every goal scored during Vodacom to their Goal for Miracles campaign.
