The Glamour Boys will mark their return to this historic stadium with an MTN8 fixture on Tuesday, 04 August 2009 against Bidvest Wits University. Kick off is at 19h30.
The Glamour Boys who in the past have used stadiums in North West Province, KwaZulu Natal and a few other stadiums around Gauteng & Tshwane have now found a home in the Mecca of South African football.
Football Manager, Bobby Motaung expressed his delight that will see the Glamour Boys playing their games next door to their ancestral roots in Phefeni where the Club was founded 39 years ago.
“We are excited as the Club to play our games in the heart of Soweto. In the past we have had to travel to play our home away from Johannesburg and although that was good in a sense that we would take the team to other provinces in some way it has been difficult not having a place to call ‘home’,” said Motaung.
“I have spoken to the players and the Technical Team - they are excited to play at Orlando Stadium. The coach was very happy that we will not be sharing the ground with rugby teams and Ace Khuse played some of his best games in the same ground. People from Soweto will walk to Orlando to watch their favourite team,” he said.
Meanwhile the league is yet to announce the venue to host Soweto derby this season.
