"The day brings back all the memories of the past and the great achievements we have reached since our foundation," said Kaizer Chiefs Chairman Kaizer Motaung.

Kaizer Chiefs were founded on 7 January 1970 shortly after the return of Kaizer "Chincha Guluva" Motaung from the United States where he played as a striker for the Atlanta Chiefs of the North American Soccer League (NASL).

"Looking back, I want to thank all the founding fathers of this Club and all those that played a part in laying the foundation of what we are today as Kaizer Chiefs, and all those that helped to continue growing the brand and the legacy," said Motaung in his new year message earlier.
