Kick-off for the opening game is at 10am.
Under-17 mentor, Doctor Khumalo, told kaizerchiefs.com that the team is confident but not complacent going into the tournament.
“We did well last year where we eventually lost to the winners, Boca Juniors. The boys are confident going to the game against Tshwane but we cannot underestimate them. Tournaments have a way of springing surprises and it will be important for the players to keep their discipline throughout the game,” he said.
“We only have few players who played in the tournament last year, so their experience is going to help the new players in the team. We started our preparations on January 4 and as the Technical Team we are pleased with the way things have turned out.”
Two players who will certainly not take part in this year’s proceedings are Tshegofatso “Ninja” Ramabu and Abraham Jacobs. Both players participated in the tournament last year but were promoted to the Under-20s last year and Vladimir Vermezovic gave both players a run during the Peter Mokaba Cup in Polokwane.
“It was pleasing to see players coming from the development getting a run in the first team. I am sure that is going to serve as a motivating factor to the current group of players. If they work hard they might have a chance to impress the first team coach,” noted Khumalo.
