Joining Chiefs are Orlando Pirates, Ajax Cape Town, BidVest Wits, Silver Stars, Supersport United, Jomo Cosmos, Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns from the PSL, as well as Kempton Park FC, Westville United, Africa Sport, Arcadia Shepherds, Zola Lazio, Maritzburg United and the School of Excellence, all of whom will participate in the annual U-15 tournament this weekend.
The winner of the Manchester United Premier Local Finals will represent South Africa, and the continent of Africa, at the Manchester United Premier Cup World Finals overseas in late July.
The Local Finals are being hosted by Nike and SAFA Soweto, and have the full support of the Gauteng Provincial Government.
The 16 teams scheduled to play in the Manchester United Premier Cup Local Finals have been drawn in the following groups:
Group A
Orlando Pirates
Ajax Cape Town
Bidvest Wits
Silver Stars.
Group B
SuperSport United
Kempton Park FC
Jomo Cosmos
Westville United
Group C
Africa Sport
Arcadia Shepherds
Moroka Swallows
Mamelodi Sundowns
Group D
School of Excellence
Zola Lazio
Maritzburg United
Kaizer Chiefs.
These teams will play in a round robin format. The top teams from each group will contest the semi-finals and finals.
Teams that have represented South Africa at the Manchester United Premier Cup in the past include Remember FC (1999), Ajax Cape Town (2000/2001), Orlando Pirates (2002), Kaizer Chiefs (2004), Moroka Swallows (2005) and Orlando Pirates (2006).
The entrance is free on both days and the gates will open early. Kickoff starts at 10h00 each day.
