Chiefs have played a game less than their title rivals and will be looking to complete a league double for just the first second time in the PSL era over SuperSport to keep them in the race for the Championship.
The Amakhosi come into the game on the back of a strong showing in a 4-0 win over BIDVest Wits in the Nedbank Cup on the weekend and will be looking to be just as ruthless and efficient in front of goal as they were against the Students.
Recent History
In 13 previous matches in the PSL era against SuperSport at home in league games Chiefs have managed just one win over the current defending league Champions, that win came 12 years ago in April 1999 during the 1998 – 1999 seasons.
SuperSport have been labelled as Chiefs nemises for some time and the stats seem to indicate confirm that, of the 27 previous clashes in the PSL era between the sides Gavin Hunts team have won 11 games to Chiefs 6 victories while 10 games have ended in a draw.
Of those 6 wins for The Amakhosi 5 of them have been in away games, Chiefs are in a favourable position after having defeated SuperSport 2-0 when the teams met earlier in the season to record home and away league wins against them, the only other time they managed that since the inception of the PSL in 1996 – 1997 was during the 1998 – 1999 season.
Current Form
Chiefs are unbeaten in their last five league games but they have not won a league game since defeating Platinum Stars on February 13, they do come into this game after that convincing Cup win over Wits, which was a timely boost for the Amakhosi as they begin their final five fixtures of the season.
SuperSport suffered back to back loses last week going down 2-4 to Golden Arrows in a league game which was followed up by elimination at the hands of Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday. Of their last five league games SuperSport have won 1, drawn 1 and lost to 2 matches.
Missing Out
Chiefs are not hampered for this fixture by any serious injuries or suspensions, Tinashe Nengomasha and Mandla Masango who missed the win over Wits both return to hand Amakhosi coach Vladimir Vermezovic added options in midfield. SuperSport are minus the suspended Dipsy Selolwane.
