Kaizer Chiefs in conjunction with its main sponsor Vodacom continued with their community engagement programmes on Wednesday, 01 May 2013 when they visited Etafeni Day Care Centre Trust.

The Trust, in partnership with the local community, has built the multi-purpose centre in Nyanga, Cape Town which takes care of the needs of vulnerable children.

Marketing Director Jessica Motaung was accompanied by other staff members including Corporate Communications Manager, Vina Maphosa and three players, Jimmy Jambo, Matthew Rusike and Reyaad Pieterse for the noble cause.

Motaung, addressing the children, commended the Trust for building such a centre; "Kaizer Chiefs are delighted to be here to spend time and have fun with you today. It is inspiring to see the work that has been put in this project. We are also grateful to once again be working with Vodacom and also bringing the players who always endeavour to give back to the community.

The centre has a pre-school unit for approximately 60 children, an enriching after school-care programme for 80 scholars including breast-feeding counselling and support for new mothers. The premises have a well-kept vegetable garden which the centre uses for sustenance.

Project Manager, Peter Barendse thanked both Kaizer Chiefs and Vodacom for taking time to visit the Centre.

"This means a lot to the children and everyone associated with Etafeni. I watched the players being taught on how to play the marimbas.

The three players were awesome with the children. Thank you to Vodacom and Kaizer Chiefs for making this visit possible," added Barendse.

The activities on the day included Q and A with players and a planting of a tree. "Trees are very important in preserving nature and sustaining the environment and as Chiefs we will be looking at continuing to work with the Centre and where possible make a meaningful contribution", concluded Motaung.
