"This visit is closely aligned to our Corporate Social Investment program,” explains Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director Jessica Motaung during her visit to the Khalipha Special School in Kwa-Mashu. “We are about giving back. This is also in line with our theme to inspire greatness this season." Both MTN8 finalists – the Amakhosi and Orlando Pirates – visited this school for mentally challenged children on Friday.

During the visit, the two clubs put aside their football rivalry to do good ahead of the much awaited sold out MTN8 clash at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday (kick-off at 8:15pm).

"The school was founded in 1972 by the Union of Jewish Women organisation," explained school principal Mrs Z E Shinga.

"We are happy to see these two top teams at our school. The kids are happy to meet the players, they are raving about them. We also know that both teams have players who originate from KwaZulu-Natal. It’s so great to have these players here. We wish both teams well in Saturday’s match."

Josta Ddladla, Hendrick Ekstein, Chris Matombo and Lorenzo Gordhino visited the school for Kaizer Chiefs. Their attendance brought a huge smile on the faces of the admiring kids as well as the teachers and other school staff.

"We are grateful to be here,” stressed Josta Dladla, who in particular was hugely popular among the children. “It’s an honour to be able to interact with you. I also want to thank our Club for doing this kind of important work of reaching out. It’s so great to participate in this initiative - we feel humbled. In addition, we want to say ‘thank you’ for the warm welcome we received, which means a lot to us. And, let’s not forget, I want to congratulate the staff for the great job they are doing."

Kaizer Chiefs donated Nike soccer balls and Amakhosi clothing to the school.

"This is a historic moment for the school,” concluded Mrs Shinga. “We have not experienced this before and I'm convinced that our kids will be encouraged by this act of doing good. Thank you all for this precious moment!"
