“We are coming to the match with one thing in mind, winning,” enthuses Kaizer Chiefs communications manager Vina Maphosa. The press conference for the Sparta Macufe Cup took place this morning at Naval Hill, Bloemfontein.
“We can't let Bloemfontein Celtic dominate us in a match, be it a friendly or an official match,” assures Maphosa about Sunday’s clash between Celtic and Amakhosi. “We bring a full strength team. The only missing players will be Itumeleng Khune, Erick Mathoho and George Lebese, who are on duty with the South African national team.”
Chiefs and Celtic lock horns for the Sparta Macufe Cup, which is part of the Macufe Arts and Culture Festival happening this week in Bloemfontein.
“The last time we won the trophy was back in 2011, which is a worrying statistic,” reflects Maphosa. “This doesn't gel well with who we are. We are Cup Kings and the No 1 football brand in South Africa.”
The match is scheduled to take place at the Free State Stadium on Sunday, 11 October. Kick-off is at 15:00.
There is a hype of anticipation with Gold and Black colours seen in and around Bloemfontein at the moment.
Tickets are selling like hot cakes with approximate 25 000 tickets sold in Thursday morning. Cost of tickets at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide is R50 and R60.
