Isaac Ramaitsane "Shakes" Kungwane

(2 February 1971 – 28 May 2014)

Isaac “Shakes” Kungwane brought laughter to the dressing room. Shakes made fun out of serious football matters. He will be remembered for his ball distribution skills and funny side of his lifestyle. These were the words used by speaker after speaker at the Memorial Service of the late Shakes Kungwane held by SuperSport TV where he served as a football analyst by the time of meeting his final destination.

Representing Kaizer Chiefs at the Memorial was legend and current Assistant Coach Doctor Khumalo who reflected on Shakes' moments at Chiefs.

"Shakes made us laugh all the time. His trickery on the ball often landed him in trouble with the Coaches. Former Coach Paul Dolezer always complained about Shakes. In one incident Dolezer complained alleging that Shakes confused his teammates by looking the other way while passing the player," remembered Khumalo.

Other speakers at the SuperSport Memorial Service that was held at the Methodist Church in Randburg this morning included Dr Irvin Khoza representing the PSL, friend and legend Mark Williams, newly appointed Gauteng SACR MEC Molebatsi Bopape and Minister of Sports, Hon. Fikile Mbalula.

The general Memorial Service for the late Kungwane will be held on Wednesday, 4 June 2014 at 13:00 at 3-Square Stadium, 13th Ave in Alexandra and the Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, 7 June 2014 at 09:00 in Fafung near Brits.

May his soul rest in peace!
