The 2013 Nedbank Cup Champions, the Amakhosi emerged as the winners of the Nedbank Ke Yona Cup when they beat the Nedbank Ke Yona team at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

After a goalless 90 minutes of football, Kaizer Chiefs won 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out.

The Chiefs line-up consisting of the likes of Jimmy Jambo and Brilliant Khuzwayo took control of the proceedings from the first whistle with Erick Matombo and Captain on the day, Lucky Baloyi dictated terms in the middle of the park.

Brilliant Khuzwayo was on top of his game, pulling one save after the other. Khuzwayo continued with his fine display when he saved one of the Ke Yona Team's spot kicks during the penalty shoot-out.

The Amakhosi lads under the watchful eye of the Coaches Doctor Khumalo and Ace Khuse came close to scoring in the first half but lacked firepower in the final half.

Chiefs made several changes during the game with Solomon Khopotse, Yusuf Bunting, Shawn Malinga, Simphiwe Mtsweni replacing Macheke, Jambo, Moshobane, Mynhardt and Matombo.

Man of the Match Hendrick Ekstein was his usual menace in the opposition half, displaying some nifty touches and giving the Ke Yona Team goalie, Mwenya Chibwe some restless moments with several attempts at goals. Philani Cele came close to avoiding the penalty kicks when his shot at goal during referee Daniel Bennet's optional time, narrowly missed the target.

In what looked like exactly what the Doctor ordered, Chiefs displayed a perfect penalty shoot-out when they rolled the ball past the Ke Yona Team goalie Japhta Merase who came in for Chibwe earlier.

Shawn Malinga, Philani Cele, Yusuf Bunting and Lorenzo Gordinho scored Chiefs’ penalties while the Ke Yona Team missed two of their spot kicks to hand Chiefs the 4-3 win.
