An ankle injury has ensured that Chiefs midfield livewire David Mathebula will be unable to be in the field on Wednesday afternoon, when The Amakhosi will be in action in Durban for the second time in just five days.

Chiefs will be hosted in an Absa Premiership match on Wednesday at the Chatsworth Stadium by Golden Arrows, Mathebula who was injured during Chiefs recent 1-1 draw against Santos on Saturday evening will have to sit out Wednesday afternoon's crucial match. While Mathebula, who has been playing consistently well over the past few matches watches from the sideline, defender Jonathan Quartey -- who missed the Santos match with a calf injury looks set to make a comeback against Arrows.

Mathebula out

Amakhosi coach Muhsin Ertugral spoke to kaizerchiefs.com about Mathebula’s injury and said “when you reach this stage of the season you need key men like David, going into these kinds of matches with out a creative player like him does put us on the back foot”.

Ertugral also commended the midfielder on his bravery saying, “David was injured early on against Santos but through that he played and gave a fantastic performance”. Chiefs physiotherapist David Milner expects Mathebula to be ready for Chiefs derby match against Pirates on the 10th May as he commented, “we feel that the injury could heal over the next couple of days and we are optimistic that David should be ready for Pirates match”.

Quartey trains

Jonathan Quartey managed to complete two training sessions on Monday and Tuesday which has opened up the possibility of him playing in the game against Arrows, Milner was happy with Quartey’s input in the sessions and added. “Jonathan came through unscathed on Monday and Tuesday in training and we feel that it is possible for him to be available for selection for the match”.

Also making a return to the Chiefs team is left winger Siphiwe Tshabalala, the Bafana Bafana star missed the Santos game as he was serving a mandatory one match ban for collecting his third yellow card of the season, on the 13th April when Chiefs played Sundowns in an Absa Premiership game.
