Chiefs will begin the hunt for their second piece of silverware for the season, a week after clinching the 2006 SAA Supa8 trophy in Durban against SuperSport United. While the Chiefs coach has begun plotting The Amakhosi’s plan to obtain the R4.2 million prize purse that comes with the competition which replaces the now defunct Coca Cola Cup.
He will have to keep his two times man of the match winner from the SAA Supa8 competition, Scara Ngobese out of his plans as Ngobese will miss Saturday’s game due to suspension.
Scara who picked up two man of the match accolades as Chiefs marched to the SAA Supa8 title, won him self a pair of plane tickets for each of his man of the match performances.
Also collected two yellow cards in the Supa8 tournament the first for an over exuberant celebration, after he opened the scoring for Chiefs in the 2-1 semi final victory over Chiefs Soweto rivals Moroka Swallows in Durban.
After scoring Ngobese proceeded to pull of his jersey and was yellow carded by referee Jonas Nhalpho, he picked up his third yellow card and his second of the Supa8 for an over the top tackle on SuperSports Katlego Mashego towards the end of the Supa8 Final on Saturday.
Scara collected his first yellow card of the season on the 20th September, in Chiefs 2-1 loss at the hands of Bidvest Wits at the FNB Stadium.
The Chiefs midfield wizard who helped lay on Rotson Kilambe’s 61st minute match winner against SuperSport in the Supa8 Cup Final, was gutted when he heard he was to miss Chiefs Telkom Cup opener. “I was unaware at first that I collected my third yellow card on Saturday, I wanted to continue from where I left off against SuperSport by getting the team into the next round of the Telkom Cup”.
Scara is upset that he will now have to sit on the side lines for almost two weeks as he will return for Chiefs next game which is against Bloemfontein Celtic on the 8th November. “To have to watch Saturday’s game from the side lines will be really frustrating, especially since our next game is like in two weeks time” said Scara.
The Amakhosi’s double man of the match winner from the SAA Supa8 does feel that Chiefs have the strength in depth to cope with the loss of personal through injuries and suspensions, and will be able to overcome the challenge of Wits and get through to the next round of the competition.
Added Scara “in recent times we have had to make do with the loss of players like Derrick Spencer, Shaun Bartlett and even Tinashe Nengomasha and all the guys who have come in have done the job that was required of them. At Chiefs we are in a fortunate position of being able to replace on player of quality with another equally able and capable one”.
Although the loss of Scara for this weekends game along with the long term injury of Siyabonga Nkosi, might hamper Ernst Middendorp’s plans for Saturday’s game the Chiefs coach is confident that players the likes of Gerald Sibeko along with the returning Derrick Spencer will be able to plug the holes left by the likes of Nkosi and Ngobese and keep the Chiefs flag flying all the way to the Telkom Cup Final in December.
