Kaizer Chiefs would like to join football fraternity in sending heartfelt condolences to the Yekini family who lost a son and a legend in Nigerian football, Rashidi Yekini.



Yekini (48), one of the most prolific strikers of his generation succumbed to death on Friday, 04 May 2012 after a short illness.



‘Ye-King’ as he was affectionately known in some quarters played for a host of local clubs in Nigeria including UNTL, Kaduna, Abiola Babes and in Europe for the likes of Victoria Setubal in Portugal in 1990 where he scored a record of 90 goals in 108 matches, Olympiacos (Greece), Sporting Gijon (Spain), FC Zurich (Switzerland), and Bizerte also in Switzerland.



He was the first Nigeria player to win the coveted Africa Footballer of the Year in 1993 after his goals helped qualify Nigeria to a debut appearance at the 1994 World Cup.



Yekini is to be buried on Saturday in his hometown of Offa according to Muslim rites.



The Kaizer Chiefs Family in its entirety would like to pay tribute to the late and wish all those affected following his passing, strength through these difficult times.
